Council Election 2026
Details of the 2026 election cycle
- In last year's election cycle, terms were staggered for Board Members of the Greater Washington DC Chapter of the Internet Society (ISOC-DC).
- During the 2026 election cycle, seats 5 thru 7 are up for election for terms that will continue until the 2028 election. Seats 1 thru 4 are not up for election until the 2027 election cycle.
- Current board members in seats 5 thru 7 are all eligible to run for another term.
- An Expression of Interest (EOI) will be considered a self-nomination and only self-nominations will accepted. EOI should be sent to elections2026@isoc-dc.org.
- In this election cycle, the Board would like to stress the need for working Board Members. This is a volunteer Board and the work of the Chapter is shared with the Board.
- In particular, the Board is seeking candidates who can fulfill the role of Treasurer. You must be trustworthy, transparent, comfortable developing budgets, outlooks, accounting, cash-flow statements and balance sheets. Other work of the Board that is critical to its success includes marketing, social media, programming, web content, managing events, soliciting speakers, topics of interest to the membership and overall actively filling the mission of ISOC-DC.
- Only active ISOC-DC members residing or working in the Greater Washington area are eligible to stand or vote. To be considered active, members must have participated any of the Chapter events since 2024.
- You can check your membership (or join) at ISOC and after joining globally, select the DC Chapter.
- Deadline for EOI's is Friday August 28, 2026 5pm EDT.
- There will be a Meet-the-Candidates forum online (and optionally in-person) tentatively planned for Friday September 11th, 2026 at 11am EDT. (details TBA)
- Online voting will take place following the Candidates Forum thru Sunday September 20th, 5:00pm EDT.
- Results will be shared early the week of September 21st.
- And finally, an Organizing meeting of the newly elected Board and an AGM for the members will take place later that week or early the following week (details TBD).
An Election Committee has been appointed by the Board to oversee the election process and results: Mike Nelson, Jon Conradt*, Melinda Clem.
*note Jon Conradt is a sitting Board member up for re-election but not standing for another term.
Proposed Bylaws Changes
- Also on the ballot will be a vote on the proposed changes to the bylaws that has been underway for the past 18 months.
- We've gone through several changes, had reviews by ISOC and outside council and finally have completed the re-write.
- There was also an open dialogue with the Board via zoom earlier this summer where an overview of the changes and motivations were shared and discussed.
- Any additional feedback or questions in advance of the election are welcome via email isocdc-bylaws (at) isoc-dc.org.
- We need a formal acceptance via membership vote to adopt the new bylaws.
- Additional details are available on the Main Page.
